Fortress lying long under the sky Danyang Jeokseong
Beyond the upbound Danyang Rest Area on the Jungang Highway, you can see the Danyang Jeokseong Fortress rising up the hillside. Designated as Historic Site No. 265, Danyang Jeokseong Fortress was built during the reign of King Jinheung of Silla and was a 932-meter-long stone fortress guarding a large castle. Inside the fortress, earthenware pieces from the Silla and Baekje dynasties, as well as celadon and ware pieces from the Goryeo dynasty, were found, giving an idea of the time period. Even from a distance, you may be hesitant to climb the massive walls, but it is recommended that you do so to experience the true beauty of the mountain fortress. The view from the top of the bow-shaped mountain will be so spectacular that it will be well worth tiring your legs.
