Red Clay Garlic Village

Red Clay Garlic Village was originally an area in Bukyi-myeon of Danyang, where two valleys meet, so it was called Eongisil, Eungsil, or Eouigok, but in 1914, following the unification of administrative areas, it was called Eouigok and was incorporated into Maepo-eup.

It is located in Eouigok-ri, Maepo-eup, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and is located 15 minutes from the center of Danyang toward Jecheon and Seoul.

Red Clay Garlic Village is located in Maepo-eup, close to Dodamsambong Peak, one of the Eight Scenic Views of Danyang, and is a village that grows a lot of Danyang six-clove garlic, a specialty of Danyang, and grows garlic using organic methods without using herbicides. The village operates a cooperative farm (garlic and soybeans) in which all residents participate and use it as a village fund, and the residents have a strong sense of cooperation.

The villagers, along with the head of the village, have taken the lead in the Saemaul Movement and village development, and have been recognized by the President as an excellent village in the Saemaul Movement. Danyang Red Clay Garlic Village is a village where a lot of six-clove garlic, a specialty of Danyang, is grown. Danyang six-clove garlic is a representative agricultural specialty of Danyang and is produced as an agricultural product that maintains the best price in mail-order sales and markets.
