Cheondonggyegok·Dariangyegok Valley

천동·다리안 계곡

Starting from the Birobong Peak of Sobaeksan Mountain and flowing in front of Darian Local Tourist Area, Cheondong Tourist Area, and Gosudonggul Cave, Cheondonggyegok Valley boasts cold and clean water that you can't put your hands in for a long time even in summer. The rushing water of the stream, which twists and turns around rocks and boulders, combined with the clean air from the dense forests, creates a cool and refreshing retreat for those looking to escape the blazing heat.

he upstream side of the valley has been developed as the Darian Local Tourist Area, with campgrounds, dome houses, cottages, a performance stage, a grass plaza, and sports facilities. The valley is also a popular starting point for hiking Sobaeksan Mountain, where you can climb up to Birobong Peak and back down in about five to six hours.

In particular, the Dariangyegok Valley is composed of Granite Gneiss (Paleoproterozoic era) and Jangsan quartzite(Paleo-Cambrian era), and the area where they meet forms a "ductile shear zone." The time interval between these formations is about 1.3 billion years, and it is a place where you can experience the long history of the earth that humans cannot easily realize. A geologist from overseas once visited the site and said, "I can't believe that I am seeing earth minerals with a 1.3 billion-year gap with my own eyes, I have no regrets now."
