Cheondong Tourist Area, a Colorful Delight

If you drive 6 kilometers from downtown Danyang across the Gosudaegyo Bridge, you will find Cheondong Tourist Area, which rubs shoulders with Darian Tourist Park. It is a multi-purpose tourist complex with cottages, auto camping sites, and catering facilities around Cheondonggyegok Valley, where clear mountain streams and dense forests radiate clean energy down from the deep valley of Sobaeksan Mountain.

The first-grade water of Cheondonggyegok Valley is cool enough to keep you awake in the scorching heat, and you can put your summer vacation worries to rest at Cheondong Tourist Area. You can enjoy the water at Cheondong Waterpark under the cool shade of the mountains, as well as an auto camping site where you can enjoy a family vacation in the summer. For those who want to get closer to nature, there is a hiking trail to the top of Sobaeksan Mountain, where you can enjoy the thrill of trekking.

The most famous attraction in Cheondong Tourist Area is the Cheondongdonggul Cave, designated as Chungcheongbuk-do Monument No. 19. First discovered by residents in 1976, the cave has an ancient history dating back to 450 million years ago. As mysterious as it is, entering the cave is not an easy task. The entrance is narrow, and you have to crawl about 20 meters in a crouching, sitting position, which is quite exhausting, but the views of the stalactites and stalagmites are worth the effort.

Because there is little groundwater infiltration here, the amount of water that falls from the cave's ceiling is minimal, and stalactites and stalagmites are created very slowly. As a result, they are becoming more elaborate and delicate. Cheondongdonggul Cave, known as the 'Cave with a Flower Tray', is recognized as one of the most beautiful limestone caves in Korea, along with Gosudonggul Cave (Natural Monument 256), for its colorful colors and exquisite interior scenery.

Although the cave is small and intimate, the terrain of the cave, which rises upward and then dips downward, is very exciting, and each step you take will stimulate your sense of adventure and competitiveness.
