Step into the history of Goguryeo at Ondal Tourist Park

온달관광지

The road from Danyang to Yeongchun-myeon is a spectacular drive that runs alongside the Namhangang River, occasionally dominated by rocky cliffs along the river. As you enter Yeongchun-myeon, turn left and head towards Guinsa Temple, where you'll find yourself at the entrance to Ondal Tourist Park, where giant waves of tiled roofs create a spectacular view.

It is a collection of scenic spots including Ondalgwan Museum, which is themed around the legend of Princess Pyonggang and General Ondal, the famous Goguryeo general, as well as Ondalsanseong Fortress and Ondaldonggul Cave. The first thing that catches your eye when you enter the entrance is the drama set, which boasts a spacious layout.

It has been the setting for many dramas, including SBS's "Yeon Gaesomun," MBC's "Legend," and the recent KBS dramas "The Kingdom of the Winds" and "Empress Cheonchu". If you follow the guidelines and enter, you can see photos of the characters in the dramas, and it is especially interesting to see the costumes and props used during the filming of the dramas.

The exotic garden is also a rare sight to find elsewhere. As you pass through the corridor where old-fashioned red lanterns hang gracefully, there will be a small pond, you cross a bridge that is curved like a rainbow, and then stroll through a garden with tiles as wide as a lady's skirt, you will feel a sense of surrealness that will last forever, as reality disappears and only a dreamlike time remains.

After walking 850 meters from the set, you will reach Ondalsanseong Fortress. The 972-meter Ondalsanseong Fortress is the site of a fierce battle between Goguryeo and Silla for possession of the Hangang River, but it is also where the legend of Ondal the Fool and Princess Pyeonggang began.

Ondaldonggul Cave, which is believed to have been created about 450 million years ago underground at the foot of Seongsan Mountain, where Ondalsanseong Fortress is located, is a natural limestone cave with a length of 760 meters of main and branch caves. When you enter the cave, the primeval winds that have been moving in and out of the cave for a long time refresh your body, and the mysterious stalactites form a starry scene that cannot be seen outside the cave.
