과거로의 여행 문화유적

[National Treasure No. 198] Jeokseongbi Monument of Silla, Danyang (Habang-ri, Danseong-myeon)

It is estimated to have been built around the 12th year of King Jinheung, the 24th king of Silla (551 AD), and was established to commemorate the territorial expansion after King Jinheung conquered the upper area of the Namhangang River, which was the land of Goguryeo. Although the upper part has been cut off, the surface of the stone is clean and the engraved characters are clear, making the remaining 288 characters an important source for understanding the relationship between the three kingdoms at the time. This intagliated monument is also important for the study of calligraphy, as it is halfway between two different types, ye-seo and hae-seo.

Three-story Stone Pagoda in Hyangsan-ri, Danyang(Gagok-myeon, Hyangsan-ri)

After Mukhoja's nirvana in the 19th year of King Nulji of Silla (435), his disciples built a pagoda and enshrined his sari, but Hyangsansa Temple was burned down during the Imjin War and the sari was stolen. The collapsed pagoda was rebuilt by nearby residents and is a typical Unified Silla-style stone pagoda.

Ondalsanseong Fortress (Ha-ri, Yeongchun-myeon)

This 682-meter-long, 7 to 10-meter-high stone castle is located on Seongsan Mountain at an altitude of 427 meters above sea level along the Namhangang River. The castle is named after the love story of General Ondal and Princess Pyonggang, and artifacts from the Three Kingdoms period have been excavated inside the castle.

Jeokseong Fortress, Danyang (Habang-ri, Danseong-myeon)

It is a half-moon-shaped stone castle built in Habang-ri, Danseong-myeon, and was a relatively large castle with a length of 932 meters. Earthenware pieces from the Silla and Baekje periods, celadon pieces, and roof tile pieces from the Goryeo Dynasty were found in the castle. The construction method is very solid, and it is evaluated as a valuable resource for studying Silla castle construction techniques.

Archaeological Site in Suyanggae, Danyang (Aegok-ri, Jeokseong-myeon)

This is the most extensively excavated Paleolithic Era site in Korea so far, with cultural remains ranging from the Paleolithic Age to the Bronze Age. It is considered a world-class Paleolithic site that helps to reveal the lifestyle and natural environment of the time.

Population of Spreading Yews in Sobaeksan Mountain (Gagokmyeon, Eouigok-ri)

They are precious trees that are said to live for a thousand years and another thousand years after death and were once used for royal furniture. The unisexual flowers bloom in April, drupeaceous fruits ripen in September, and they grow wild in high mountains. They form a colony on the west slope of the ridge of Sobaeksan Mountain at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,400 meters.
